Most of the floor tiles are traditional old red French tiles. The doors and windows are old-fashioned, but in good order – many have hinged exterior shutters fitted. The plumbing and electrics were renewed by professionals shortly after purchase in 1989; the roof terrace constructed and the roof completely replaced by local builders – the work was done in 1989/90 (the terrace a bit later). The cellar has a ping pong table, and the inner cellar is equipped with a workbench, tools, storage for firewood/solid fuel/bikes/wine etc. The house is for sale fully furnished and equipped, ready to let. Through the village runs the Crenze, a tributary of the river Vis, which is about 800 yards from the village. The Vis is a swift running trout river which, having no towns upstream, and running underground for many miles, is one of the cleanest in France; the pools below its waterfalls (one of which is 8 minute's walk from the house) are perfect for bathing (see youtube video); the waterfall and the river are the reason I bought the house. Two miles downstream the Vis joins the Herault, which is also a good river for bathing, fishing and canoeing. The village is situated in a valley in the foothills of the Cevennes, which is a National Park; it dates back four or five hundred years, and has a bar, a restaurant, a village store which also bakes bread, a post office, and a junior school. Local activities available include: walking, tennis, swimming, canoeing, fishing, horse-riding, golf, nature trails, concerts, speleology, wind-surfing, sailing, hang- and para-gliding, go-karting, archery. Wine-making is also key to the area, with some seriously good wines available, and award-winning cooperatives like St Saturnin.
